End of Slide (2024)

滑梯尽头

At the end of the slide, the thrill fades. Silence remains.

In the early 2000s, slides were rare, found mostly in city parks. As China’s infrastructure expanded, they spread across neighborhoods—bright and abundant. Today, they remain largely unused. With declining birth rates and the rise of new forms of entertainment, cities now face an excess of slides. Despite becoming more colorful and diverse, these structures attract fewer children than before.

This project traces a tipping point—both personal and collective—marking the end of childhood and the quiet close of an era in China’s urban transformation.
